He’s Just Not That Into You

In Chick Flick, Comedy on February 14, 2009 at 6:20 pm

hes-just-not-that-into-youThousands of women will flock to this movie with the aim of gaining some additional insight into their relationships.  Unfortunately they will find that this film offers nothing more than what is already widely available in your weekly women’s mag.

Having enjoyed so many movies where the women changes and wins the man ‘Grease, She’s all that’, I guess women-hood are at some level wanting to be told who they need to look like or be in order to meet ‘Prince Charming’ and find happiness.   Thankfully the message of this movie (if there ever was one) is that its just you baby.

Gigi (Goodwin) is adorable at representing the majority of women-kind and how they perceive love.  We watch her and her friend circle through various life situations. Read the rest of this entry »

The Other Boleyn Girl

In Chick Flick, Drama, Movies on March 9, 2008 at 10:46 am

vm_sy140_sx100_-4.jpgSet in 15th century England the movie portrays the relationship between King Henry VIII who does not have a male heir and the two Boleyn daughters . The movie is full of romance, intrigue, and betrayal as the two sisters are driven by their families ambitions for power and status.

The Good

The movie flows well with plenty of atmosphere and the acting of the two sisters particularly Anne played by Natalie Portman was a highlight.

The Bad

The Nanny Diaries

In Chick Flick on October 5, 2007 at 6:00 am

Scarlett Johansson is an anthropology/ finance student who decides the world of finance is not for her and becomes a nanny to a Upper East Side New York mum.

I really liked it. Laura Linney plays the evil, ’selfish’ mum extremely well and Scarlett is as lovely as ever. Chris Evans “Fantastic Four” is her love interest. Great movie for the ladies. Great message.

Sunday Star Times gave this flick a 1/5 – but please it was a chick flick review by a guy!!!!!

Scoop

A light, whimsical comedy …

Woody Allen writes, directs and stars in this amateur mystery/ comedy. He stammers his way through the movie with his typical style of laughs. I’m a big fan of Scarlet Johansson (she is the most beautiful actress in Hollywood – my opinion) and she does the naive, aspiring journalist quite well.

There’s nothing much of substance really to this film, but it enjoyably plods along and ends well. I enjoyed Woody Allen’s previous film ‘Match Point’ more, but this film is still an enjoyable watch (but your partner may not agree!).

Steph’s rating: 7/10 (good, but not great)
IMDB plot review: A student journalist, for a college paper, visiting friends in contemporary London happens upon the scoop of a lifetime. Along the investigative trail, she finds magic, murder, mystery – and perhaps love, with a British aristocrat.
