We Own the Night

The Dad is a senior police officer, one brother has aways been good and has just been promoted to lieutenant and is now in charge of the drug squad, the other son is independent and fun loving and is the manager of the local club where all the drug deals are going down.When the police raid the club tensions run high in the family but this soon changes when the cop brother is almost killed in a retaliation shooting and his brother realises who did the killing and that they are now after the dad.

Our ‘movie going’ has been in a drought for some weeks, so I think I enjoyed this movie more than I should or what the movie is really worth.

It’s a basic action formula flick, however I like Mark Wahlberg as an actor generally (loved him in ‘The Italian Job’). Whilst the plot is predictable and nothing out the ordinary; the movie flows well, even with a hint of romance for us ladies.

As far as action films go, I liked this one. However, if I compare it to ‘Blood Diamonds’ or ‘King of Scotland’, I’m afraid it doesn’t quite measure up. Good movie just to enjoy and not think to hard about.

The Departed

This is certainly a different movie, and I’m still stunned from it and trying to decide if I liked it.

The acting is excellent, however heaps of violence and bad language! Maybe too much for me. This movie has lots of twists and turns and a Scorsese ending. I quite like how they did something different with that, but not sure if I feel satisfied with it.

On the whole, OK. Wouldn’t see again, but Leonardo DiCaprio and the ‘psychologist’ girlfriend were brilliant. We enjoyed this movie with good friends and uncertain if they would go to the movies with us again – based on this pick! Definitely a ‘blood & guts’ movie.
