Factory Girl

fg.jpgWhen I hired out this DVD, I had already heard that the acting and the storyline was….say… very poor. It had already failed miserably at the Box Office and had gone straight to DVD almost everywhere. So why do you ask, did I want to hire and review this film? – the clothes baby – the clothes!

Before one half of you switch off, I liken a women’s passion for designer clothes to men’s obession with World War II Fighter planes or Classic Automobiles. There really is nothing quite like it… Let me quickly run through the ‘plot’ so we can get back to the clothes. Factory Girl is based on the true story of rich socialite and Andy Warhol’s muse, Edie Sedgwick. She was an ‘IT’ girl of the 60’s, similar to Nicole Richie or Lindsay Lohan today. Edie was famous for being rich, the people she was friends with and her unique sense of style. And what fabulous Style it was!

My favourite fashion statements from Factory Girl include:

- The earrings (oh my goodness I must get those)

- The black stockings and black undies (unfortunately only those as gorgeous as Sienna Miller will get away with that one)

- The Shift Dress

- That 60’s hair and eye makeup.

You may wish to watch this film in silence (or on mute), so the terrible acting and weak storyline don’t distract from the ‘fashion’ enjoyment. Every a sexy Hayden Christensen playing “Bob Dylan” can’t help this storyline. So just remind yourself, we are only watching it for the fashion and style anyway. And that alone is well worth the viewing.

Steph’s review: Movie 2/10 – Fashion 8/10

P.S. Other ‘Fashion worthy’ Chick Flicks include: (and these ones you won’t want to mute :) )

- Funny Face

- The Devil wears Prada

- Valley of the Dolls (60/70’s fashion. You grimace like you’re watching a train wreck – but remain fixated unable to look away)

- Marie Antoinette
